Spotlight Ingredient: Wasabi
|
| Wasabi is a type of root commonly used in Japanese cooking. It is also referred to as Japanese horseradish and has a strong, hot flavor. It is finely grated before use and often made into a paste. Covering wasabi preserves flavor so sushi chefs usually put the wasabi between the fish and the rice when preparing sushi. Do you have any favorite recipes that use Wasabi? Be sure to add them!

You should never stick your Chopsticks upright in a bowl of rice. Instead, lay them on the dish provided. This is because when somebody dies, their shrine contains a bowl of sand (or rice) with two sticks of incense stuck upright in it. Sticking your chopsticks in the rice bowl resembles the incense sticks at shrines and makes them the equivalent to wishing death upon a person at the table.
